Dear Intermediate School Families,
It was a pleasure seeing many of you for conferences this week. If you were unable to meet in person or virtually with your child’s teachers and wish to, please contact the teachers or me. I will be happy to set up a meeting during the school day for you.
It is hard to believe we are now in our fourteenth week of school and pushing toward the break on the 23rd already. On that day we will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. We will return to school on January 3rd, 2023! I hope to have tentatively scheduled MCAS dates for GRAIS to you after the new year.
Grade Four Science:
Fourth graders have been working on their changing Earth unit and are exploring rock patterns. Students are learning that the fossils in rock layers give us clues as to how an environment has changed. Students are also learning that the order of the rock layers helps us determine the age of rocks and fossils. Ask your child what the oldest rock layer is. Is it the top or bottom layer?
Grade Four Social Studies:
Using practice, games, and songs, students are learning the states and capitals of the Northeast region along with the location of the states. Students are learning how people's lives in the Northeast are affected by the land, climate, and natural resources of the region.
Grade Five Science:
We have been working on mixtures and chemical reactions in our science lab. Students try to decide if it’s simply a mixture that can be separated or a chemical reaction which creates a new substance. We have created some pretty cool reactions, such as combining milk and vinegar to form a precipitate!
Grade Five Social Studies:
Students are wrapping up the unit on the governments and economic opportunities in the original 13 colonies. Next, they'll be embarking on a new adventure in their text with Unit 8: Uniting the Colonies. This is always a favorite unit in class because the students will examine the events that led to the American Revolution. They'll watch clips from the mini-series, John Adams, in order to truly understand the difficult road to revolution.
