Dear Intermediate School Families,
On the 18th, the boys and girls really enjoyed our comfy Pajamas Day and managed to stay engaged and alert in their classes. On Friday, November 22nd, we will have Warm-n-Cozy Sweats Day!
PTO:
The PTO board and the GRAIS staff would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to the lovely “Thank Boo!” staff appreciation breakfast this past Friday! It was wonderful and the staff felt the support and appreciation down deep!
Our Scholastic Book Fair will run from November 18th– 22nd, and the children will visit the fair during their library classes. In the coming weeks, a Sign-Up Genius will be emailed asking for volunteers for those five days. If you’re able, we would love to have you join us to make this another successful event. Please ensure that your CORI is up to date and you have fingerprints on file to volunteer. Thank you for your continued support of our school and the intermediate school staff!
Nature’s Classroom:
A deposit of $150 due no later than December 20th from fourth grade families who complete the attached Google form to register for Nature’s Classroom. If a parent wishes to enter into the chaperone lottery, that should be noted. https://forms.gle/tvUwnFx9qES1RV9B6. Please reach out to Amanda Pimentel, the coordinator of the trip at apimentel@freelake.org if you have any questions.
Grade Four Science:
Last week, fourth grade science classes participated in a challenge for STEM week. They worked on creating a load bearing bucket suspended in air using limited materials of straws, tape, and string. Each group tested out their structure later in the week. We were excited to see their brainstormed ideas come to life.
Grade Four Social Studies:
Students are finishing up their study of the continents, oceans, and their geography skills. We will soon be moving on to the regions of the United States, beginning with the Northeast region.
Grade Five Science:
Students are continuing to learn about matter. They are discussing how matter is conserved even across a change in the state of matter and will be investigating this in the lab next week. Additionally, last week, they worked on a STEM week challenge of building load bearing bucket towers. Students had fun building and testing their towers and learning about the engineering design process.
Grade Five Social Studies:
Students are learning about the settlement New England colonies and how their economies all depended on the Atlantic Ocean.
A Note from the Music Room:
In music class, our fourth grade students continue on their bucket drumming journey with a song called "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons. Along with this student favorite, we are also performing our first song of the year called "Spooky Night". I have added a sing along version to my google classroom for students to use at home. Fifth grade students are finishing up their "Danse Macabre" and "Night on Bald Mountain" listening maps and performing dances while responding to the different themes. We have also started our second song of the year "Uptown Funk" on our bucket drums.
