Dear Intermediate School Families,

Last week, in just a few days, we began to get into a groove at the intermediate school.  With an  adherence to our core values of respect, responsibility, and safety, students began to learn new routines and expectations.  We hope  you will help us to embed these values into all the children do, academically and socially this year.  All three are basic, but encompass so much.  With everyone aiming to be his or her personal best, it will be a wonderful year!  It has been so nice to observe so many new friendships budding in classrooms and many older ones blooming at lunch and recess too!

Opening Day Forms:

So that we have all the information we need, we ask that all forms that require signatures be returned by this coming Wednesday, the 12th.  We appreciate your attention to the important, albeit tedious bit of housekeeping.

Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures:

We are off to a very good start as far as adherence to drop-off and pick-up, but we ask that you review the procedures here, so all students on our campus remain safe, as we have walkers from each of the three campus schools on site at various times..

Drop-off

  • The drop-off circle near the pool entrance allows FOUR vehicles to pull to the curb to release children from the right side.

  • Students may not be dropped off in the upper walkway.

  • Students may be dropped off at the circle beginning at 8:20 a.m.

  • Adults must escort children who are tardy (after 8:30 a.m.) into the building.

  • Parking in the fire lane in front of the building is prohibited at all times.

Pick-up

  • Adults park in the upper lot and walk to the cafeteria entrance.

  • Children will never be released to walk to the lot.

  • Adults must present a valid photo ID when picking up children.

  • If a child typically rides the bus, but is being picked up, he/she is to bring in a note to homeroom, or we ask that you call the main office.

Campus Programs:

Please retain this link to find some wonderful after-school opportunities for your children as the year progresses. Send any questions on the offerings as they post to Diane Czapiga at 508.923.2000 x1719 or dczapiga@freelake.org.

Constitution Day at GRAIS:

On Tuesday the 17th, the intermediate school will commemorate the September 17, 1787 signing of the United States Constitution by dressing in patriotic clothing and participating in activities that bring this very important document to life for our students.

Donations:

We are so grateful to all who have dropped off or sent in frequently used classroom items, such as rolls of paper towels and boxes of tissues.  All items will be put to good use and are so appreciated!  Donations may be dropped off in the vestibule during school hours throughout the year.

Extended Programs:

If you’ve any questions regarding After the Bell, SCORE, Vacation Club and Kids Cafe, please contact Lisa Pacheco at 508.923.2000 X1730 or at lpacheco@freelake.org.

Fire Drill:

The girls and boys did a wonderful job of silently, safely, and smoothly moving out of and back into the building for our first fire drill of the year on Thursday. We were so grateful to have fire officials from both Freetown and Lakevile here with us.

School Adjustment Counselors’ Note:

At the start of the new school year, parents and guardians want to hear what their student’s day looks like and how they are feeling about their day. Naturally, you ask, “How was your day?” Most of the time the response you get, especially as your student gets older,  is simply, “Fine.”  Here are some suggestions of ways to get your children talking without it seeming as though you are dragging every detail out of them: How to Get Your Child to Talk About School from Understood.org.

Mrs. Pennini is our grade four school adjustment counselor and may be reached at mpennin@freelake.org or 508.923.3506 x 3152.  Mrs. Maderios is our grade five school adjustment counselor and may be reached at kmaderios@freelake.org or 508.923.3506 X 3151.

GRAIS PTO:

The fun run was wildly successful in 2022 and 2023, allowing the PTO to fund all aspects of all of the field trips in both grades, as well as in-school assemblies.  The hope is to do the same this year. This year the fundraiser kicks off on the 10th!  Save the date and stay tuned for more details.  Again, this is a PTO event so all questions should be directed to the board at graispto@gmail.com.
