Dear Intermediate School Families,
Thank you for all your help and support in having our girls and boys prepared for the state assessment this week. The 2024 ELA MCAS is now behind us, with the exception of a few students, who due to absence, will be doing a makeup session. We thank all the wonderful volunteers who came in to help too!
Eclipse Viewing:
Thank you to all who adhered to the March 27th deadline for opt-in forms, so that we were able to ensure adequate adult supervision and planning. Tremendous thanks goes out to all the adults who volunteered to help at school tomorrow, the 8th. We ask that each volunteer be here between 1:50 - 2:00 p.m. so we may create a volunteer sticker from your driver’s license in the office, and so we may provide you with safety glasses and your assignment. We are so very grateful to you for coming in.
PTO Fundraiser Items PIck-up:
ALL purchased items must be picked up between 3 - 7 p.m at the main door of GRAIS on April 10th. Questions must be directed to the PTO board at graispto@gmail.com.
FLMS Drama Club:
The middle school, under the direction of Mrs. Blell and Mr. Johnson, has their production of The Wizard of Oz coming up. I can tell you from my many years at FLMS, their students’ performances are always outstanding! We hope you will be able to attend. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $12.00 at flmsdrama.ludus.com or $15.00 at the door.
Freetown-Lakeville Middle School Presents
The Wizard of Oz
May 10th at 7:00 PM
May 11th at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM
Grade Four ELA:
Fourth graders have been working very hard this year on improving their reading comprehension and their writing abilities, and we are very proud of their hard work and perseverance. We are continuing to read our class novels and learn about character traits and how they change throughout a story.
Grade Four Math:
Students are continuing to work on their fractions and decimals unit. Students are working on multiplying a whole number by a fraction, fractions as tenths and hundredths and relating fractions to decimals.
Grade Five ELA:
We'll be starting a new novel study with a book titled, Maniac Magee. The story is about a boy named Jeffrey Lionel "Maniac" Magee who might have lived a normal life if a freak accident hadn't made him an orphan. We'll be focusing on character development and theme as we embark on this adventure.
Grade Five Math:
We have begun our study of algebra and operations. Students have learned how to use the order of operations to evaluate math expressions. We first do anything in grouping symbols (parentheses, brackets, braces, or grouped above or below the fraction bar), then anything with exponents, then multiplication and division in order from left to right, and finally addition and subtraction from left to right. In this unit, we will also practice identifying rules for number patterns, filling in missing terms in patterns, comparing terms in two different patterns, and graphing terms from patterns as ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.
Nature’s Classroom:
For those whose children are going to Nature’s Classroom in June, please email Stacey Snyder, the coordinator at ssnyder@freelake.org with any questions.
