Dear Intermediate School Families,
Thank you to all who contributed in any way, big or small, to making Principal Appreciation Day (5/1) and Educator Appreciation Day (5/2) so lovely last week. We do what we do because it is a vocation to which we are called. We are blessed to do it here because of your children and all of you!
Ready to Show More of What We Know:
This coming week, we will participate in MCAS for math in both grades. Grade five will test tomorrow and Tuesday, and fourth grade on Wednesday and Thursday. Grade five will test in science next Monday and Tuesday. We are looking forward to the boys and girls showing off all they have learned, as we wrap up this MCAS season. Thank you for all of your support in having them in school on time, well rested, having had a good breakfast, and with a snack, a bottle of water, and a reading for pleasure book.
PE and Nature’s Classroom:
It's that time of year when we can get back outside and finish up our fitness tests for the year. The students are trying to beat their personal bests in the 1/2 mile, pacer test, situps and pushups. Usually we see a jump in scores over the January tests, and hopefully bigger scores over September. We are also hoping to do our Jump Rope for Heart event before the end of the year, so stay tuned for that.
For those going to Nature's Classroom, we will be having a meeting later in May to go over final details and any last minute questions. Don't forget that paperwork and balances are due. All questions are to be directed to Mr. Ireland at rireland@freelake.org.
Art and Music:
The GRAIS Art & Music Night is a chance for students to showcase their talents to family and friends. Students will have their best artwork from this year on display in the hallways and students who participate in chorus will perform in the auditorium. You are welcome to come to view the artwork anytime between 6-8 pm . Band will begin performing at 6:30 and the chorus will perform at 7:30. Please remember this event is at Freetown-Lakeville Middle School. We’re looking forward to seeing you and appreciate your support of the arts at GRAIS!
Library and Media:
In addition to the titles for our summer reading assignments, which were shared on Tuesday, we would like to share some additional titles, as it is important to continue good reading habits over the summer. The Pizza Hut Bookit Program encourages children to read for 20 minutes a day because reading and going to the library with your children provides quality family bonding time, reading will improve vocabulary; comprehension; and reading skills, reading aloud to children also builds their listening skills, reading helps children prepare for school readiness, and reading is excellent exercise for the brain!
Here are some additional summer reading book suggestions:
Alone by Megan Freeman
Isla to Island by Alexis Castellanos
A Wolf Called Wander by Rosanne Parry
Roll With It by Jamie Sumner
Arlo Finch and the Valley of Fire by John August
Yummy: a History of Desserts by Victoria Elliot
