Another great week at Freetown Elementary! With each passing day students are learning the expectations of FES Within those expectations students are becoming more and more familiar with our core values of being respectful, responsible, and safe. Keep up the great work Freetown Fox students!
Thank you to all the preschool families who participated in the Preschool Open House that took place last Tuesday evening. Many families attended with their child and we could not help but notice the smiles, positive energy, and joy that was beaming from each child who was eager to show their family their classroom and teacher. Thanks for joining us!
On Monday, September 19th Freetown Elementary School students participated in learning activities wrapped around Constitution Day / Citizenship Day. FES students participated in learning activities about the significance of the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787 on Monday. Did you know…
Freetown Elementary School has a partnership with the Community Engagement Program of PACE Child Care Works. With this partnership FES and PACE offer a free weekly parent/child playgroup for 3 and 4 year olds on Friday mornings. The time of the playgroup is from 10:00 - 11:30 AM on Fridays. Registration is required. If you are interested please email Tammy at tdesnoyers@paceccw.org or call Tammy at (508) 999-9930 Ext 129.
Attendance Matters Weekly Update:
The goal that has been established... 94% of the FES student population will attend school daily.
It is required for students to attend school regularly. Please make every attempt to send your child/ren to school. We will begin tracking our school-wide attendance data next week.

FES News and Happenings:
FES School Council Meeting: On Wednesday, September 28th at 8:15 AM there will be an FES School Council Meeting. All members of our school community are invited to attend. The purpose of the school council is to assist the principal and school council team members in adopting educational goals for the school, identifying the educational needs of students, reviewing the annual school budget, and formulating a school improvement plan.
News and Happenings around the classrooms:
Preschool: We enjoyed seeing many of our families at our Preschool Open House this week! We introduced our first letter, letter p, from our Lively Letters program. The Lively Letters Program teaches letter sounds through characters, stories, songs, and hand motions! One class experimented with a pulley during their study of the letter p. The color red was showcased in both classes this week, and preschoolers were invited to wear red on Thursday for “Red Day.” We also pretended to ride a bus as we discussed bus safety rules.
Kindergarten: This week in kindergarten we continued practicing routines. We are learning to spell and write our names as well as friends' names. We started our FUNdations program and learned proper pencil grip, our letter formation grid and practiced with the letter”t”. We read a variety of books and focused on the character in the story. In our math program, lessons included understanding counting and counting 1, 2 and 3 objects with proper writing formation.
Grade 1: This week in first grade we continued to review letters and sounds. We have been discussing characters and settings of stories. In writing our first graders are learning the expectations and routines of writer’s workshop. For math this week we have learned about counting on to add.
Grade 2: This week in second grade in math we worked on place value using both standard and expanded forms, and we reviewed the values of digits in the ones, tens and hundreds. In reading we discussed the literary elements of character, setting, plot and problem/solution along with how characters respond to challenges. In Fundations, we continued reading and spelling words with consonant blends and digraphs, particularly focusing on using the ck digraph after a short vowel. We worked on developing ideas for writing and learned about map skills.
Grade 3: This week in third grade we continued to read Judy Moody was in a Mood and we started our All about Me Tees. We started unit one of math which focuses on an introduction to multiplication. Students practiced small group time where they practiced drawing arrays and writing multiplication equations. In Social Studies this week we studied New England's many natural resources.
Music: This week, students K-3 have started the second week of their unit on being expressive in music. We will learn new songs, games, and movements to be performed with appropriate musicality. In addition, Gradees 2 and 3 have begun basic note reading activities. 3rd Grade chorus sign up forms are going home with students. If you would like your child to participate please sign and return them.
Art: All grades are learning about LINE as an element of art. Kindergarteners are practicing good pencil grip and posture as they learn to name and draw varied straight and curved lines. Grade 1 drew line patterns as they created adorable scarecrow crayon resist landscapes. Grade 2 learned about collage as they creatively arranged magazine photos around their painting of the world. Grade 3 continued their work on their mini line designs.
Physical Education: Students in first, second and third grade practiced their kicking by participating in soccer stations. They played pass and soccer golf. The dribbled around the perimeter of the field, and shot on goal. Kindergarteners learned how to run the pacers, and played a game called “No Bump, No Touch, No Follow” while practicing their spatial awareness and locomotor skills. When the weather kept us indoors we played games that worked on cardiorespiratory endurance.
Library: In library class this week, kindergarten students learned about the different people involved in putting a book together. Students learned about the parts of the book and completed an activity about it. In first grade, students learned how to access the FES library website. They used Pebble Go and read an article about the US Constitution. Second and third grade students learned or reviewed how to join a Google Classroom and then read a book of their choice about the Constitution on the website Epic.
