Mr. Ward’s Message:
Welcome back to all of our Freetown Elementary School Foxes. The Freetown Elementary School hopes that all families and friends of FES had a splendid summer. Today, Thursday, September 5th marked the day in which Preschool and Kindergarten scholars joined their grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 peers. We are excited to meet all our new friends and welcome them to FES.
As always our main priorities at FES and across the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District is for our students to be safe, to be engaged in their learning, and to have fun learning. Our hope and dream is that each student and their families have an exciting and memorable year.
During the course of this first week of school we will have participated in an expectations assembly to learn about the 3 CORE Values of Freetown Elementary School. The 3 CORE Values being respectful, responsible, and safe. Students also learned and/or reviewed the expectations at recess and lunch. Additionally, the students are getting to know each other and their new teacher. They are adjusting well to the school routine such as transitioning in the hall, how to engage in the classroom, and much more. All in all the week was joyous and filled with many happy faces. What a great start to the school year.
Attendance Matters…
Each week parents/guardians/caregivers will be given the average daily attendance percentage for Freetown Elementary School. Our goal is that each day 94% of our student population attends school daily. We have been very successful the past couple of years reaching our goal. Please remember if your child is going to be absent for any reason please call Nurse Allie (508.763-5121 Ext. 5400) to make her aware of the absence. FES will begin to share the daily average attendance for the week in next week’s Thrillshare Email.
Upcoming events:
September 9: September PTO Meeting beginning at 6:30 PM
September 26: Preschool Open House from 5:30 - 6:30 PM
September 27: Fall Individual Picture Day - Lifetouch is the provider
FES News and Happenings:
Please be patient with buses arriving home from school. At FES we are aware buses are leaving the school late. Please know we are ensuring the safety of our students by being overly cautious as to which bus we place students. In due time, our bus departure time will be smooth and efficient. For the entire month of September the FES office will notify families of the bus departure times via Thrillshare emails.
Gentle reminder to parents/guardians: If there is a change in your child’s pick-up routine please send in a note, in writing, to your child’s classroom teacher. That note will be sent to the office. Please refrain from sending an email to the office. At times, emails are not delivered, the email may not get opened in a timely manner, or the person receiving the email may be out of work for the day. Freetown Elementary is aware that emergency situations do take place and with that please call the main office directly and we will be able to assist you.
Parent Pick-up at Dismissal (on Memorial Drive): A gentle reminder for any family participating in the Parent Pick-Up Dismissal. Please park your vehicle in a designated parking space and then walk to the Memorial Drive doors. There you will identify your child and yourself, please ensure you bring a valid ID card for identification purposes and your child will come out to you once cleared. Although the process may be a bit slow right now in a couple of weeks the pick-up process will be smooth and efficient.
On Monday, September 9th of next week FES will have its first practice fire drill. All fire drills are done in coordination with the Freetown Fire Department.
Starting Monday, September 9th our Universal Breakfast Program will be open daily. Breakfast is free for all students. Parents/guardians may drop off their child/ren from 8:45 -9:00 AM at the main entrance if you wish to have your child participate. Bus students will have the opportunity to participate in the breakfast program by simply getting off the bus upon their arrival to Freetown Elementary School. Please let your child know if he/she can eat breakfast at school.
Summer Reading: Students in grades 1-3 were given the Summer Reading Challenge of reading in 30 different places. If you have not done so already please send in your child’s Summer Reading Packet. Each child who completes the summer reading challenge will receive a small token of appreciation. YES, we are still collecting the Summer Reading Challenge packet late. So if you complete it over the weekend send it in. Your child will still receive a prize.
