Around the Freetown Elementary School Classrooms for the Week of June 10-14:

Pre-School:     This was preschool’s last week of school!  We enjoyed participating in the Fox Festival!  Thank you to the PTO for creating such a fun day for us.  Some other activities this week included celebrating summer birthdays, and Bubbles and Chalk Day.

Kindergarten:  This week in kindergarten all classes completed review activities for ELA, writing and math. We have wrapped up our butterfly unit as all butterflies have hatched and been released.

Students had an amazing time at their first FOX FESTIVAL! Thank you to the PTO and all of the volunteers for making it a wonderful event! Students also had fun creating Father’s Day gifts for that important dad figure in their life.

Grade 1: This week first grade reviewed phonics skills with r controlled vowels, vowel teams, and digraphs. For comprehension we reviewed plot, characters, and setting. We finished our animal research books for science and writing. In math, we reviewed time and money. We had a great time at the Fox Festival!

Grade 2:  This week in second grade reading we reviewed comprehension skills from Unit 5 in our Wonders reading program.  In math we reviewed unit 4 skills on geometry and fractions. We reviewed spelling patterns and syllable types learned this year in phonics. We wrote opinion stories. We continued to learn about United States national symbols in preparation for our Second Grade Star Spangled Spectacular!

Grade 3:  This week in third grade, we completed the Freetown Unit .  Students reflected on what they learned from the field trips and discussed comparisons between life in historic times versus life today.  Life was certainly different! In math, students reviewed multiple skills covered throughout the year.  A big thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to present for Career Day!  Students had an opportunity to learn about different parents’ careers and activities that coincided with how they make a difference each day.

Physical Education:  This week in PE we finished our volleyball skills lessons with second and third grade. First grade and Kindergarten finished learning how to play hopscotch and started some overhand volleyball passing skills.

Art:  All students have brought home their art portfolios.  I hope families have enjoyed viewing work in the folder that demonstrates a year's worth of learning and growth and also serves as a wonderful keepsake.  It has certainly been a productive and successful year in the art room.

Music:  This week, students K-3 are reviewing material from the year. We will also be learning about the electric guitar and Second grade will be wrapping up their Star Spangled Spectacular.

Library:   In kindergarten and first grade we took another look at data visualization which is a topic within computer science. Students looked at a series of pictures to figure out what the data was telling them. Students determined how the shapes in the 3 boxes were sorted and then students showed their own way of sorting shapes in the 3  boxes using the Seesaw app. In second and third grade, students posted book recommendations using the Padlet app. Students displayed a picture of a book they wanted to recommend to their classmates and wrote a description of why they would recommend it.
