April is World Autism Month! We began with Light It Up Blue as Autism Speaks kicks off the beginning with World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. There are multiple communities in the Autism advocate communities who may disagree about the proper path for these groups. What we hope to celebrate is acceptance of all and to fearlessly stand for a world where autistic people are
recognized and have the opportunities they deserve.
APPONECON WAS A BLAST!
Highlights in Art I
"Art 1 students practice building their observational drawing skills with a Collaborative Grid Portrait activity before beginning their own self portraits. A mystery portrait has been divided up into 1.5" x 1.5" picture squares. Each student chooses a picture square that they will then replicate and scale up on a 3"x3" drawing square. They're goal is to develop the correct values, forms, textures, and proportions that they are observing. Once they complete their drawing square they can tape it into its corresponding numbered box on the "canvas". As more students complete their squares the mystery portrait will take form and be revealed!"- Ms. Lima
