A look into our classrooms:
Art:
Kindergarten students used stoneware clay to make snowman faces.
First graders learned about Paul Klee (pronounced “clay”, so funny). We used rulers to make hot-colored cats.
Second graders also are using rulers, making hot and cold cityscapes.
Grade three students are making Mexican mirrors with oil pastel and watercolors.
Music:
K: This week is K we are working on our steady beat!! The kids are doing an amazing job playing all together!
1st: First graders are working on playing unpitched percussion instruments to a fun song. We have been concentrating on keeping the beat and using dynamics while we play.
2nd: The second graders are working on playing unpitched percussion instruments along with a fun bean bag passing game to a silly song, Icka Baka!
3rd: The 3rd graders are preparing for their big performance on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 @ 10:00am in the AES Gymnasium!
Library:
This week, students in Kindergarten and first grade are learning about the Caldecott Medal. Students are learning about the requirements and we are reading books that have earned these awards. Students in 2nd and 3rd grade are signing into their Destiny, our online catalog. Students are making a list of books they would like to read and marking them in their favorites for easy checkout.
PE
Due to popular demand our scooter unit has been extended one more week.
In all grades students are playing freeze tag while riding scooters. In grade 3 students are also playing ultimate football while on the scooters. In this game we are focused on throwing and catching and moving to open space. In grade 1 and 2 students are playing scooter line soccer.
Kindergarten
This week we focused on the essential question, “How do tools help us to explore?” We read the book, “The Handiest Things in the World,” to incorporate information on how we can use our hands, but tools make things easier. We are learning the letters Ll, Hh, and Kk and the sight word, a. We also started to learn about verbs. In Math, we are learning how to make different combinations of the numbers 8 and 9. We also have started to learn about different holiday traditions.
Grade 1
This week we learned all about buildings and what materials are used to build them. In addition, we read about homes around the world and learned that people build homes to fit the place they live. We continued to practice reading/writing words with bonus letters (ff,ll, ss,zz) and the glued sound -all. We ended the week by creating our “Countdown Mice” which has been a tradition for many years. Have fun counting down the days to Christmas and have a wonderful weekend!
Grade 2
This week in 2nd grade we focused on the essential question “what happens when families work together.” We read some expository text and talked about the text elements that are found in expository and nonfiction text. In Fundations we continued to work with base words and suffixes. We are looking forward to the month of December and introducing the children to our Social Studies unit on holidays around the world.
Grade 3
In Grade 3 we are learning to solve word problems by looking for clue words which point us in the direction of the correct operation. We will be moving from one-step to two-step problems soon. Our reading selections this week have to do with elections: how they are run; who can vote; why voting is important. The pieces we are reading are focused on children and what things children might vote on at school or even at home, such as what to have for dinner or what movie to watch. The selections focus on the importance of voting and encourage kids to grow up to be active voters. In science we are working on life cycles of plants and animals.
Nurse’s Nook:
