A look into our classrooms:
Art:
Kindergarten students were introduced to modeling clay this week. We learned how to soften it with our hands, and to make a “snake”.
First graders are mixing colors of oil pastels to make gumball machines!
Second graders are finishing their Jeff Koons balloon animal paintings.
Third graders are doing patterned backgrounds on their skull drawings.
Music:
This week all classes 1-3 played the boomwhackers to fun, spooky, Halloween songs! We also played Haunted Rhythms where the kids had to identify and remember a particular rhythm and not clap it..or they were out!
The K classes worked on a Halloween poem, making our instruments “talk” to the syllables.
PE
This week in PE we are learning about the skeletal system by completing a skeleton race. In this relay race students are working together to accurately put together the skeleton in small groups. In grade 2 and 3 students are also dribbling and passing a soccer ball during the race in order to review those skills.
Students in all grades are ending class with a tag game called zombie tag. Zombies try to tag humans while being slowed down by having to keep one foot in a hula hoop at all times.
Kindergarten
We had another very busy and fun week in Kindergarten! We had so much fun during our Halloween Parade! It was so wonderful to see everyone’s awesome costumes! And, we enjoyed running fast during our annual “Fun Run!” We want to send a big “thank you” to the PTO for putting on this great event! We also focused on our essential question, “How can we get along with new friends? We learned what a noun is and worked on comprehension skills with the book, “What about Bear?” We are learning the letters Dd and Ss and we are continuing to work on the sight word, the. In Math, we are making, counting and working to configure groups of 6 and 7 objects. We are also incorporating nature and going on some really fun “Math Walks” helping us to observe that Math is all around!
Grade 1
What a fun-filled week we had! The Halloween parade was wonderful and then we had the “Fun Run” on Thursday. A huge thank you to the PTO and all of the families that donated, without you we wouldn’t have amazing field trips and school presentations. This week we were also introduced to digraphs (ch, sh, th & ck) and read stories that centered around what friends do together. Have a nice weekend!
Grade 2
We had a fun filled week in 2nd grade this week. We celebrated Halloween on Monday with some Halloween reading and math activities. A super fun Halloween costume parade ended our day. We had a great time at our Fun Run on Thursday - perfect weather to be outside.
This week in reading we continued to focus on the essential question “How are families around the world the same and different.” Our comprehension focus was on captions. In Fundations this week we learned about closed syllable exceptions. Ask your child what makes a syllable a closed syllable exception. In math we continued to work on strategies for solving word problems. Please continue to work with your child to learn their math facts.
Grade 3
Grade 3 is learning to use place value to add and subtract. Next we will be solving word problems using place value. In reading we are learning about traditions, both those that we have in our families and those of other cultures. In social studies we continue our study of the Wampanoag people and Pilgrims.
