Expressing Gratitude
This week, the second grade team presented a GRATITUDE ceremony where the second grade students all made a GRATITUDE TURKEY that they then hand delivered to staff around the building. We kicked this off with a representative from each class presenting their Gratitude Turkey to a staff member for the whole school to see. (PICTURE BELOW). What a GREAT way to promote being thankful and appreciative for the AES staff. Thank you to the Grade 2 team and the following is the presentation that was presented: CHECK IT OUT: Click Here Gratitude
Speaking of GRATITUDE - Please know how thankful we are for your continued support! I hope you all have a WONDERFUL BREAK and long weekend next week and a Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate!
TIS THE SEASON!
As the holiday season quickly approaches, the students from the Assawompset Superintendent’s Round Table thought it would be a perfect time to show our appreciation and gratitude to our local police and fire departments and to our bus drivers. This is a SCHOOL WIDE project where all students have a chance to “Give Thanks.”

KINDERGARTEN
This week in Kindergarten, we discussed rules and how rules can be different depending on where you are! We read a fiction story titled “How do Dinosaurs Get to School” to help us learn more about this topic. In math, we learned about 2D shapes. We are looking forward to our Thanksgiving Feast next week! Happy Thanksgiving!
GRADE 1
This week we learned all about buildings and what they are made of. We read “Cubs in a Hut” and “The Three Little Dassies.” Our genre focus was fantasy. In addition, we read and wrote words with short u in them. The children are very excited for the fall festivities planned for next week. We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
GRADE 2
November is Gratitude Month. It is time to reflect on what we are thankful for and time to give thanks. So, this week, the second grade students practiced gratitude by creating a “Gratitude Award” for one very special person. During a school wide assembly on Wednesday a few second graders presented a “Gratitude Award” to a few school staff members. Also, during the assembly the second graders sang the “Thankful, Grateful, Appreciate” song. Practicing gratitude brings happiness. The second grade team wishes you all a very happy Thanksgiving.
GRADE 3
This week in third grade we are reading poetry to learn how people figure things out. Students will be writing their own free verse poems and limericks. In math we are exploring how multiplication and division are connected. As we approach Thanksgiving we are wrapping up our unit on the Pilgrims, Wampanoag and first Thanksgiving fest.
Counselor’s Corner:
Teaching Gratitude
The holiday season is quickly approaching and that naturally creates an environment where children are focused on what they want for presents. So, how do you remind them that the holidays are also a time to be grateful for what they have? Teach them the skills of gratitude and what it means. First, gratitude is feeling thankful for the good things one has; not focusing on the things one does not have. Second, taking the time to express your appreciation to others who have made one’s life better (i.e. family, friends, teachers, peers). Third, developing positive behaviors as a result of interacting with those who have impacted them. Some ideas families can use to teach gratitude to their children include: having children write thank you cards; have a gratitude jar where all family members can leave notes; tell stories to your children about your experiences; have children list positive things from their day and model or role play scenarios to practice these skills. And of course, when your children receive those holiday presents, simply saying thank you.
Thank you and have a great day!
