                                                         TIS THE SEASON!

As the holiday season quickly approaches, the students from the Assawompset Superintendent’s Round Table thought it would be a perfect time to show our appreciation and gratitude to our local police and fire departments and to our bus drivers.  This is a SCHOOL WIDE project where all students have a chance to “Give Thanks.”

*** These donations are VOLUNTARY and hand made cards are always welcome!

A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO OUR AES PTO!

The PTO organized a Beautification Committee for AES.  Thank you to Melissa Knowlton and volunteers for their time making AES Beautiful and accessible for our staff and students.

A ONCE overgrown courtyard once lived here:

This is in addition to blueberry bushes, potted mums at all doors and so much more.  🙂

The PTO beautification committee has also purchased bulbs for the entire school.  Holes have already been made near the building, and each classroom will be to plant bulbs with their students!  Thank you for making AES such a wonderful and beautiful place!

ART

Kinders drew ovals on a curvy line to create a caterpillar! They learned that an oval is really just a stretched-out circle.

Firsties started some cute cats with a different kind of line on each part of its body.

Second graders are trying to master the art of BLENDING oil pastels with Ms. T.’s “sandwich” method.

Third graders are exploring wet marker techniques, and learning how the color wheel is VERY important when doing so.

MUSIC

K: This week everyone learned how to play a steady beat on the unpitched percussion instruments!

1st: This week we worked on keeping the beat with our bodies using rings on the floor and jumping to the music.

2nd: This week we worked on keeping the beat with our bodies using rings on the floor and jumping to the music.

3rd:  We are working hard on our performance pieces this week on instruments and other special surprises! The 3rd grade winter concert will  be held on Wednesday, December 11th @ 10:00am in the AES gymnasium!

LIBRARY

Save the Date -- Booksgiving is coming! Please send in gently used books for a school wide book swap. Please see the flyer for more details on book donations.

All students are doing various activities on Typetastic this week. Grades K and 1 are learning/reviewing how to use the mouse pad and how to click on objects. Grades 2 and 3 are signing into their Typetastic accounts and picking up where they left off in the classroom for extra practice.

KINDERGARTEN

This week in Kindergarten, we focused on bugs and discussed our favorite bug!  We read a poetry  story titled  “I Love Bugs” to help us learn more about this topic. In math, we are learning addition within 5.  We have been doing a lot of fun projects while we get ready for Thanksgiving!

GRADE 1

This week we learned all about the jobs that need to be done in a community.  We read “Good Job, Ben” and read about the different jobs in Ben’s town.  In addition, we learned what nouns are and practiced reading/writing words with short e in them.

GRADE 2

This week in second grade the students are learning to solve word problems that involve adding or subtracting numbers up to twenty. They will use many different strategies learned in the last two lessons to understand the word problems and to add or subtract.

As the holiday season begins, the second grade students will be learning about gratitude. The students will focus on the people they can depend on or are thankful for, and how to express their gratitude.

GRADE 3

In grade 3 we are studying Wampanoags and Pilgrims as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving. In reading we continue to focus on our comprehension skills both in class and for weekly homework. In math we’re cruising right along in multiplication!

Thank you and have a great day!
