NOVEMBER 4th - MOCK ELECTIONS at AES:
We will be holding a mock election at AES on November 4th for President of the United States. The main purpose of this is to teach the voting process, from registering to vote to casting your ballots. This has been an annual tradition at AES since 1988. Thank you to MARIA MARTIN (retired AES teacher) for engaging the school in this process. Join the fun by discussing with your child what makes a good leader and how to respect others opinions and
reading some of these character’s books.
WHO ARE the CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT:
PIG and PETE THE CAT
ART
Kindergarten students read The Halloweiner, a story about a dog who gets bullied for how he looks. This follows up Ms. Pineault’s assembly about diversity and acceptance of others who don’t look like us.
Grades 1-3 enjoyed the tradition of Halloween drawing centers, including the funny worksheet, “If Ms. T turned into a Witch”!
MUSIC
All classes K-3 used the boomwhackers this week to some fun Halloween music! We also had time to do some spooky dancing and practice our Veterans day song!
Coming up next week, we will be learning about the celebration of Diwali!
LIBRARY
The Storybook Pumpkins are all amazing and thank you so much to everyone that participated!
This week in the library all grades learned about Diwali, the Festival of Lights. We read several stories Including Binny’s Diwali by Thrifty Umrigar and My Diwali Light by Raakhee Mirchandani. We also researched Diwali on Pebble Go and read more information on this holiday on the National Geographic Kids website.
KINDERGARTEN
This week in Kindergarten, we focused on tools and how we can use them. We read a non-fiction story titled “The Handiest Things in the World” to help us learn more about this topic. In math, we are learning about three dimensional shapes and weight. We also learned about Diwali, the festival of lights. We made great memories during our Halloween Parade!
GRADE 1
This week, students read about how our bodies move. In math we practiced adding three numbers together by finding number partners for ten and doubles. We also took part in many fun Halloween activities and stories this week.
GRADE 2
In 2nd grade this week we read and discussed Grace for President in preparation for our upcoming school wide election. With the excitement of Halloween we also read and enjoyed some Halloween stories. On Friday we learned about Diwali and made mosaics.
GRADE 3
Grade 3 is still working on multiplication in math. In reading we are starting Unit 2 in Wonders, which starts off with a non-fiction piece about what elections are and how they work. It’s perfectly timed this year! We have moved from science to social studies and have begun learning about the Wampanoag, the indigenous people of this area. After that we will move on to the arrival of the Pilgrims.
Thank you and have a great day!
