FIELD DAY FOR GRADES K and 1 - Monday, June 2nd!  Thank you to Mr. V and the PTO for putting on such great events for the kiddos!

A Note from Nurse Nancy:

End of the Year Medication Pick Up

As the end of the school year is rapidly approaching, I will be working to get medications, inhalers and EpiPens returned to guardians.  Please be on the lookout in your students backpacks regarding school events and times for pick up.

AES Needs Your Help!

Would you like to be an AES Pen Pal?

Each summer children move to Lakeville and need a friend when they start school.

YOU could be that friend!

As a pen pal, your responsibility will be to contact the new student through letters, phone calls, emails or hopefully play dates during the summer.  Our goal is for the new student to have YOU as a friend and feel included in our AES community when school starts in September.  You may also be lucky enough to be in the same class too!

If you would like to be an AES pen pal, please have your family complete the information on this form and return it to me by Friday, June 7th.  Thank you for being a great AES student!

A Look Into Our Classrooms:

MUSIC

K: This week we worked on playing instruments with our new vocabulary words  piano, forte, presto and largo. We also danced!

1st/2nd: This week both 1st and 2nd graders worked on instruments of the orchestra! We watched a short video about the orchestra, played a few guessing games and played Instrument 4 corners!

3rd: This week the 3rd graders prepped for their talent show which will be held during their regularly scheduled music class over the next few weeks. Please feel free to contact me with any questions @ deacobacci@freelake.org

LIBRARY:

Students are continuing to code with Coding with Awbie! It is a fun and interactive way to learn basic sequencing and coding skills.

Also, please take a look for any overdue library books you may have at your house!

KINDERGARTEN

This week in kindergarten we read the text Bread Comes to Life and discussed nonfiction.  In math, students worked on identifying solid shapes from flat shapes and discussed attributes of different shapes and shape names. In science, students are learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and have enjoyed observing caterpillars in the classroom! Kindergarten had a blast visiting with Barn Babies.  A huge THANK YOU to the PTO for making this possible!!!

GRADE 1

Our question this week was “How can weather affect us?”  We read several stories including Paul Bunyan and the Popcorn Blizzard and Wrapped in Ice.  At the end of the week we had a wonderful assembly featuring a magician.  A huge thank you to the PTO for sponsoring such amazing events for us! Also, just reminding everyone that  Field Day has been rescheduled to Monday, June 3rd and our field trip to the zoo is on Tuesday, June 4th.  Have a nice weekend!

GRADE 2

Second grade students have been very busy this week working on end-of-year assessments. They are working hard and doing their best :) We all enjoyed our visit to Soule Farm last week for our field trip. Students learned about simple machines, composting and had a chance to visit with the farm animals. In class we have been reading the novel Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White- what a great connection to the farm! We look forward to AES’ annual Field Day this Friday and other exciting end of the year activities!

GRADE 3

In third grade we are eagerly gearing up for a fun week next week! We have a field trip to Plymouth Patuxet, a visit to GRAIS, and Field Day! In the meantime we are working on our final math and reading diagnostics for the year, and fitting in some fun activities that we now have more time for.

Please remember to send your children with water bottles as the weather heats up; it can get very hot in the classrooms.
