All students are participating in the Hour of Code! Students are learning about sequencing and loops using Blockly. For more opportunities to learn how to code, visit the Hour of Code.
PE
This week in PE we are continuing our throwing and catching unit with a target game called snowman down. In this game students are focusing on stepping and throwing toward smaller targets to knock down a snowman. Additionally students are practicing defensive strategies to prevent their snowman from being knocked down.
KINDERGARTEN
This week, kindergarten students have been discussing the rules we follow in different places like school, home, the grocery store, the soccer field, etc. We read How Do Dinosaurs Go To School? and discussed if the dinosaurs’ behaviors were examples of good choices or not good choices. We also read the fable, The Boy Who Cried Wolf to extend our discussion about the importance of following rules. We worked with the letters/sounds e & r. In math we worked to show different combinations of the numbers 8 & 9. We look forward to meeting with you all on Thursday to discuss your child’s progress during parent/teacher conferences.
GRADE 1
First graders are feeling joyful for the Winter Season that is upon us! Students are learning about Winter Holidays around the world and are spreading their cheer and kindness as they practice our school’s core values. In Wonders this week, students answered the question of the week, “What buildings do you know? What are they made of?”. They explored different versions of popular folk tales that explore the concept of building materials. Students continue to work on bonus letter words with “ff, ll, ss” endings as well as words in the word family “all”. In Math, students are working on learning double facts and double plus one facts. In Science, students are exploring the concept of light and relating this to the Winter Season and the changes of light within the patterns of the sky.
GRADE 2
Welcome to December! This week in 2nd grade we read the non fiction passage “Cold Dog, Hot Fox” We wrote down facts about the two animals and then we compared and contrasted them. Our phonics lesson focused on consonant digraphs -dge, and -tch. In math we are learning about the different ways to represent a number. The children have been learning expanded form, standard form, word form and picture form.
GRADE 3
This week in third grade we were reading and writing poetry! Students were encouraged to use figurative language such as similes, metaphors, alliteration and personification in their writing. In math we worked on solving word problems involving addition, subtraction multiplication and division. Third graders also started a science unit about objects and motion. They explored balanced and unbalanced forces though a variety of motion stations.
A NOTE FROM PTO
After a busy fall, we are right back at it starting next week with our Holiday Shoppe. We are still looking for help from those who have up to date CORI and fingerprints on file. Click here to sign up. If you have misplaced your form, here is a link for you to print and return on the day of your child's shoppe event. If you need financial assistance for holiday shopping, please reach out to your child's teacher directly. Please remember that holiday shopping is for children to get into the spirit of giving so please refrain from allowing them to purchase for themselves.
Our grade level assemblies and field trips are well underway with planning for some of the spring events and our kindergarteners and 3rd graders have already enjoyed their first field trip of the year to the Lakeville fire station for K and a cranberry bog tour for our 3rd graders. Field trips and assemblies are free for all students thanks to all the hard work of all those who fundraised for the Fun Run.
Spirit wear for those that purchased items, the order is anticipated to be in for early January. While we wished it was here for the holidays, we are unable to control when the manufacturer is able to complete the order.
