Grade two students learned one of Ms. T.’s favorite methods, PET THE KITTY!

Grade three students started their tile project, now in its 20th year! Click here to learn about using ceramic glaze. Students will be taking a test to make sure they understand the importance of using them correctly.

Music:

K: This week we are working on learning about instruments of the orchestra. The children all played an instrument memory game to help them learn what the instruments look like.

2nd: The second graders have been working hard on preparing for the Disney performance which will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 @ 10:00am in the AES gymnasium. *This is a reminder that all students should plan ot wear a RED shirt for the performance**

3rd: The third graders have been working super hard on the recorders and are being tested again this week on letters B and A. I’m so proud of their effort while we all learn how to play together!

Library:

Our March Book Madness has come down to our final 2 books- That’s Not My Name and The Cool Bean. Students this week are voting on their favorite and we will announce the winner next week! This week in the library, students are able to go to the library’s website and click on the bracket to listen to the books that they were not able to vote on.

PE

This week in PE we are coming to the conclusion of our basketball unit. Students are doing a great job and this week we are learning about different ways to dribble in order to get past a defender. We are also playing small games to work on ball handling and defense. At the end of class students are working on shooting at the 8 foot hoops or a modified lower hoop when necessary.

Kindergarten

How can you stay safe in bad weather? That is the question we answered this week in Kindergarten as we read Waiting out the Storm by Joann Early Macken. Some new vocabulary words we practiced using in our discussions and readings were: safe, prepare, notice, celebration, and enough.  In math we showed off our counting by 10s skills. We also enjoyed skipping into the season of spring with some new centers, poems, art activities and stories!

Grade 1

This week in first grade we are learning all about classifying items. We are looking at how size, shape, color, texture and other attributes can help us to categorize items. Students read A Lost Button this week, featuring the familiar characters of Frog and Toad. In math we are working on adding three numbers together, and reviewing money and time. The first graders have also been hard at work getting ready for next week’s Grandparents Day performance. They are looking forward to performing for families next Wednesday at 10 a.m.!

Grade 2

Second grade is starting to finish our unit on subtraction. We’re working on regrouping and showing our work.

As we head into April, we are finishing Unit 3 in Wonders. This week we are working on the essential question, “How do you express yourself?” Students are learning how people express themselves through music, art, and a variety of other ways. Students also learned how people who are deaf can enjoy music and concerts as well.

In science, students are beginning to work on erosion, deposition, and weathering. They’ll be learning about these topics over the next several weeks.

Looking forward to April!

Grade 3

Grade 3 is still working on measurement in math, moving into measuring fractions of inches. In reading we are focused on finishing MCAS related writing, and practicing on chrome books. In science we are still learning about extreme weather, and also wrapping up some Revolutionary War history and details.

A NOTE FROM NURSE NANCY:

Happy Spring!  With warm weather comes Tick Season

HOW TO REMOVE A TICK

The proper technique for tick removal includes the following:

  • Use fine tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin surface as possible.
  • Pull backwards gently but firmly, using an even, steady pressure. Do not jerk or twist.

  • Do not squeeze, crush, or puncture the body of the tick, since its bodily fluids may contain       infection-causing organisms.

  • After removing the tick, wash the skin and hands thoroughly with soap and water.

  •  If any mouth parts of the tick remain in the skin, these should be left alone; they will be expelled on their own. Attempts to remove these parts may result in significant skin trauma.
