Register to Vote( note the date change)

As many of our students have learned, not only on  Constitution Day  (September 17), but throughout their educational journey, the opportunity to vote in local, state and national elections is an important privilege given to us by the Constitution. The 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18 and thanks to the work of the ARHS Student Council and our two Town Clerks, the opportunity for any student 18 and over (or who will be 18 prior to November 5th)  to register to vote, will be provided in the cafeteria on October 15th.

From ARHS Boosters for ALL families k-12- LAKER GEAR

We are writing regarding our new online school store for Laker and Athletic specific apparel. Boosters have been working directly with Evan Swan from the Swan Brothers in MA over the last 9 months and we are excited to have the store up and running.  The store will remain open year round, with new items being added as we continue to make enhancements. Our goal is to support families K-12 but not take away from our K-5 gear fundraisers.

For seniors we have also been working to create a "Senior Shop".  10% of ALL proceeds go to the ARHS Athletic Booster Club as we work together to support the athletic initiatives and everything is mailed directly to your house.

I once read a statement from Yheda Burg about the power of words:

“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement or we can destructively use words of despair and dishonesty. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.”

Choosing our words wisely matters, as “I didn’t mean it” is no longer viable and it is a lesson that we must regularly teach all of our children, our students, ourselves and those around us.

Everyday we see stories of those who said something very inappropriate online and it came back to haunt them many years later. I am reminded of the incredibly talented journalist who received the prestigious job of Teen Vogue Editor in 2021 and due to inappropriate tweets sent 10 years earlier at the age of 18, she was forced to resign from this position that she coveted for many years. Granted, she was able to find work as a reporter again, but her dream job and the trajectory of her career at the time was impacted by something done a decade earlier. Should you choose to read this story, I hope it reminds you of the power of words, the importance of kindness and how both matter in ways we might never know!

You Never Know

I am deeply proud that so many of our Principals, Assistant Principals, Teachers, Paraprofessionals, Counselors, School Psychologists, Team Chairs, OT and PT, Nurses, Library and IT Staff, SRO’s, Coaches, Advisors Food Service, Maintenance and Custodial Staff, as well as Central Office Administration and Staff, School Committee, Town Officials, First Responders and all of our Community Partners consistently speak so positively to our students here at FLRSD. They use kindness, compliments, encouragement, supporting dreams and providing those vitally positive behaviors that all people deeply need and appreciate. I hear daily in conversations with students that an adult in the building helped guide and encourage them and how appreciative they were for this support. Working in a school in any capacity is an incredibly noble profession and I hope we all understand that these talented caring adults deserve goodness coming back to them, not because of a title but rather because of who they are and how much passion and care they bring into our school community each day. They all deserve a kind word because “you never know” what is going on in their world outside of their job.

May your week be filled with hearing some kind words and of course, giving them back to others.

Be well …..

Alan
