From ARHS Boosters for ALL families k-12- LAKER GEAR
We are writing regarding our new online school store for Laker and Athletic specific apparel. Boosters have been working directly with Evan Swan from the swan brothers in MA over the last 9 months and we are excited to have this up and running. The store will remain open year round and we can request anything to be added as we continue to make enhancements. Our goal is to support families k-12 but not take away from our k-5 gear fundraisers.
For seniors we have also been working to create a "Senior Shop". 10% of ALL proceeds go to the ARHS Athletic Booster Club as we work together to support the athletic initiatives and everything is mailed directly to your house.

Breakfast
We want to remind everyone that we are providing breakfast for students at AES, FES GRAIS FLMS and ARHS everyday. We feel it is vitally important that all students are provided the opportunity to have a nutritious meal prior to attending school. There is no cost associated with this just as there is no cost associated with meals at lunch as costs are covered by the Commonwealth.

Hispanic Heritage Month
We celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) to recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American champions who have inspired others to achieve success. The observation began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. The theme for 2024 is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.”
It is my hope that all of you were able to spend a portion of your weekend, after our time spent remembering the horrors of 9/11 and honoring those who lost their lives by appreciating what we all have rather than opine on what we do not. In a world that is ever changing, educationally and in many other ways, the only control we truly have is with how we approach every situation.
And nowhere is this truer than within FLRSD. The energy level in the halls, the classrooms, and the playing fields has been exceptional. During the 24/25 school year, our focus will continue to be on ensuring that we remain kind, positive and non reactive while modeling what we want our students to develop within themselves, searching for solutions to each situation that arises while also continuing to strive for excellence rather than taking the easy way, the dishonest way, or the unkind way. With that in mind, this week’s message is focused on what we try to keep close to everything we do and model here at FLRSD. I hope you find some of the same if you choose to read it.
Each day I indirectly ask everyone within FLRSD to look inward and reflect: “Which mason was I today?” It is similar to the question I know our staff ask themselves daily, “how did I do today and what can I bring tomorrow” and is one that we should ask ourselves, our students and our loved ones everyday! Those who choose to be Mason 3 are those who make change, those who are self reflective, those who make no excuses and simply do what is necessary for their own pride in their work and the responsibility each of us have, to whatever career we choose.
Our staff typically do not do things the easy way, they do things that will best empower and inspire their students. As I walked through the grade 4 wing at GRAIS last week and at AES on day 1 and FES this week, I saw classrooms that are remarkably enveloped in intricate bulletin boards and within a space that is welcoming and inviting, created with love and the desire to embrace and welcome our students The world is full of those who are Mason 1 and simply want life to be handed to them in the manner they demand or to do things the easy way with no joy.
Our students here at FLRSD deserve more than that and they are developing habits of mind that will remain throughout life—whether as a post-secondary student, an employee, a military recruit, or as a future parent, partner, friend or spouse. Together we are involved in the shaping of your student’s life and behaviors, and it is our hope and goal that we as a school community, continue to help each student strive to become the third mason so that they find their passion, their voice, their joy!! We want students to LIVE rather than simply exist.
The faculty and staff at FLRSD are not only dedicated to the success of every student, but so many are also the epitome of excellence and are incessantly showing they are driven to be the third mason. As much as this beautiful nation appears divided, I do not believe that negativity is the norm across this land, and I applaud those of you who reach out and thank: a Secretary, Custodian, Faculty member, Assistant Principal, Director, Paraprofessional, Food Service provider, School Psychologist, OT/PT provider, Maintenance Department worker, IT person, Librarian, Nurse, Counselor, Coach, Advisor, Team Chair, Scheduler, Volunteer, Before or Aft Care staff member, for helping you or your student. I know they deeply appreciate all of the support you give, when sadly for some negativity is easier and seemingly more fulfilling . Thank you to our Central Office Administration and Staff, Town employees, Select Boards, School Committee, and all of our community partners who support the work our FLRSD community does each day
Have a fantastic week and in borrowing from Coach Jim Valvano’s famous speech, I hope a part of each of your days are spent “in thought, in laughter and with such positivity that it moves you to emotion. That would be a “heck of a day”. I hope you have at least a few moments like that this week, just as the third mason clearly does.
Be well, and most of all be … in peace.
Alan
