Good evening FLRSD,
Over the past week we felt the quick, deep chill of the impending winter and then just as quickly felt the significant twenty plus degree increase in temperature. This reminds us all of how quickly things change. With this understanding, it is my hope that during the rush of the holidays we find the time to focus towards spending time and building moments with those we care about. It is vital for us to embrace each experience, after all they become who we are which is a reminder of one of my favorite sayings: Collect moments, not things. Fill your holidays with experiences that will leave a lasting impact on your soul.
I encourage each of us to center on how important it is to enjoy every moment, delighting in our loved ones, our health and each other. As we are in the midst of the holidays, for so many, and we wish a very Happy Hanukkah to all our families who celebrate the Festival of Lights, the story below should you choose to read it, is a wonderfully touching reminder of what matters most. In a world that is increasingly short on time, patience and remaining present I hope it resonates with you, just as it did for me when it was sent to me and just as it did when I shared it with staff on our opening day.
Everyday I see our Principals, Assistant Principals, Directors, Teachers, Staff, Paraprofessionals, Secretaries, Counselors, School Psychologists,BCBA’s, Schedulers, IT and Library Media Staff, Nurses, SRO, Coaches, Advisors, Maintenance, Custodial and Food Service staff as well as Central Office, Town Officials, School Committee, First Responders and our community partners as they support the needs of our students far beyond the last bell. We must all remember that this diverse group of people do by either preparing for the next day while taking care of their families, or by keeping us safe at night despite their loved ones being home, or by attending night meetings to help support our community needs and so much more. Our students and our community are so lucky for that and rather than chastise or attack, I hope we applaud them and understand that the extra they do is “time away” from those they love.
May the upcoming weeks be filled with enough of what we all need- love, kindness, appreciation, and time with those who matter most. And like the little boy and his loving parent in the story, may we all remember that life harmony is about spending time being present and taking care of ourselves rather than the material things we have.
I wish you well and most of all…. time with those you love.
With gratitude, thanks and in peace
Alan
